OLYMPIA – Last week, Sen. Steve Conway, D-South Tacoma, met with Carol Selland’s family members after the Senate passed Senate Bill 6091. Conway co-sponsored the bill, also known as “Carol’s Law,” which further prevents killers from receiving benefits that result from their crimes.

The law was prompted by the tragic murder of Carol Selland by her husband, who was found not guilty by reason of insanity and thereby able to collect his wife’s pension benefits. The case exposed a loophole in the existing law which “Carol’s Law” effectively closed, preventing those found not guilty by reason of insanity to receive any benefit from the deceased.
