And so that’s why the the award is special. Instead of having six families at a ceremony being honored we have many, many, many families.”

The Governor’s Office presents the Gift of Life Award each year to the families of those being honored. One organ donor can save or enhance the lives of more than 50 people. The award was established in 1998 and is inscribed with the words, “For the greatest act of kindness in donating organs to save the lives of others.”
