2015 Update from your 3rd Legislative District team

Please click here to explore our 3rd LD 2015 Legislative Update. 2015 legislative highlights include:

  • A historic investment in K-12 education funding, early learning and K-3 class-size reduction.
  • A first-ever tuition cut for public university and community college students in our state.
  • Funding for the completion of the North Spokane Corridor to I-90 and vital bike, pedestrian and transit projects in Spokane.
  • Authorization and funding for a Washington State University Medical School in Spokane, and increased funding for UW’s medical education in Spokane.

Gearing up for the 2016 session

The biggest issue for the upcoming session will be the creation of a plan to complete our state’s Constitutional obligation to fully fund basic education. I have already started working on this plan as one of the eight members of Governor Inslee’s education funding work group. I am confident that together we will find a solution.

We will also be continuing our efforts to increase campaign finance transparency by removing “Dark Money” in Washington State elections. The primary vehicle for this effort will be the Washington State Disclose Act, which I will reintroduce at the start of the 2016 session. As always, I welcome your input on these and other issues of importance to our community in Spokane.
